This is interesting, because quite some time back, the discussion of possible COIN aircraft options for Ukraine was shot down (pun intended) because they would be a liability on the battlefield.

But, here we are.
Note however that this is a potential use not an actual one. anyone who's in the industry is pushing something towards Ukraine and the anti-drone role these days.

True, but I think Tucanos and other modded prop jobs won't be exposed to front-line stuff so much. There's still the long-range SAMs, sure, but playing backstop, they're probably in a good mission slot.
Exactly. Those of us being critical about COIN/CAS manned aircraft (especially ones like this) in Ukraine were talking about frontline use. In this situation they would be easy targets. In rear areas though it is a different matter.

Interestingly, I have heard rumours of some retired Tucanos (not super Tucanos), possibly RAF ones finding their way to Ukraine. No proof yet though.

Shakespeare "The Tempest" Act 2;
"We all were sea-swallow'd, though some cast again,
And by that destiny to perform an act
Whereof what's past is prologue, what to come
In yours and my discharge."

Thank you -- so much of our wisdom was put pithy by the Bard!

HALVALA, Finland (AP) — A ceasefire in Ukraine is unlikely before the spring and European allies need to keep up support despite a corruption scandal that has engulfed Kyiv, President Alexander Stubb of Finland told The Associated Press.

Europe, meanwhile, will require ''sisu,'' a Finnish word meaning endurance, resilience and grit, to get through the winter months, he said, as Russia continues its hybrid attacks and information war across the continent.

Stubb also needs that quality as one of the key European interlocutors between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As the leader of one of Europe's smaller countries, but one that shares a 1,340-kilometer (830-mile) border with Russia, he is well aware of what's at stake.
