There is a monoplane version also, but I discount those also. I suspect that besides availability, the fact that the Piston engined version of the AN-2 does not require jet fuel or diesel fuel may be a factor also.

As an aside I found this interesting. Its reporting that Russia are looking into the reintroduction of the AN-2 into widespread service. Its a bit like the DC-3, in that it never really went totally out of service but you wouldn't think about bringing the DC-3 back into full operation.

I live on the edge of a Parachuting Club and they sometimes use an AN2 during the UK championships when the normal Cessna Caravans need supplementing.
