There actually is a Turbo-prop variant.I read the article in the link, but it lost me when it described the AN-2 "as a turbo prop aircraft" But I understand the intention of it.
There is a monoplane version also, but I discount those also. I suspect that besides availability, the fact that the Piston engined version of the AN-2 does not require jet fuel or diesel fuel may be a factor also.There actually is a Turbo-prop variant.

I mentioned this to my Wife today, and she asked me if this should be called Monty Putin's Flying Circus? I knew I married her for a reason!As an aside I found this interesting. Its reporting that Russia are looking into the reintroduction of the AN-2 into widespread service. Its a bit like the DC-3, in that it never really went totally out of service but you wouldn't think about bringing the DC-3 back into full operation.
I live on the edge of a Parachuting Club and they sometimes use an AN2 during the UK championships when the normal Cessna Caravans need supplementing.
