any ideas?

somewhere in my mind i feel i do know what this is- any ideas? its a brass sliding cover that says "keep shut" i found it on Great Yarmouth beach . All suggestions gratefully received

I'd say it's an ink well cover from an old school desk, doesn't look like an aircraft part
