I use mainly a India ink and alcohol mix to weather my stuff. it does nice smoke and oil trails and brings out the details nicely.

 

[Airframes]

Used to use it about thirty years ago, but found it degraded after some years, and could give a metallic sheen. Also found more recent materials and methods easier and cleaner to use.
