Thanks chaps.
Visibility is now great, although a slight ache in the right eye.
I may do a little simple work in the model tonight, but don't want to strain things too much. Back probably tomorrow.

Give it a bit of time. 2 eyes in a short spell operated will need the brain to adjust. It cant flex the lens so it has to learn a bit. No biggie.
My wife had both done. Can see like a hawk now but in the very beginning had some trouble because of so much better view. 2 days it was for her. Sometimes with lots of reading or knitting a slight headache but that is wearing off quite fast and will go away i am sure.

Brain has to adjust to more input and of different control of view.

I am very sure you will be fine in a short while.

Thanks chaps.

I've recommenced work on the B-24, though nothing much to show just yet.

The front turret lower edge is currently being filed into a "trough", to start the formation of the distinctive bulged fairing in this area. This will be built-up, using "Milliput", moulded and sanded to shape, possibly over a base of thin plastic card - I need to experiment a little first.
The Bombardier's scanning windows have been blanked-off with plastic card internally, and will eventually be filled with "Milliput" on both sides, and sanded flush.
The upper escape hatch, immediately in front of the top turret, has been cut open and filed and sanded to shape - a bit of a tough job, as the plastic here was around 2.5mm thick, and there was also a locating pin and and internal rib to cut through and then file and sand, in order to prevent them being seen through the open hatch. A hatch cover will be made and then fitted in the open position, hanging down inside the radio compartment, later in the build.

Depending on progress, I may have some pics posted later tonight.

Some progress pics, with the opened escape hatch, the scanning windows blanked-off and filled with "Milliput", awaiting sanding flush, and the start of creating the turret fairing.
The section of colour pic from the cover of "B-24 Liberator Groups of the 8th Air Force" was the easiest for me to photograph, as others were tricky to fit on the scanner, or photograph without reflections. However, it shows the bulge of the turret fairing, and how it blends into the nose contours.
The basic shape for the fairing is being created by filing grooves into the aft edge of the kit fairing, and building-up the rough shape using "Milliput". Once fully hardened, this will be carved and sanded to the final shape, and, I hope, be a reasonable representation of the fairing seen on the Ford- produced B-24 H series.

Back with a further up-date some time over the weekend .................

Really looking good, nice progress. Opening the hatch above the cockpit...means more interior detail...but you can easily put a sitting figure in the hole....or since there were steps on the back of the bulkhead behind the pilot you could put the guy that was hanging out the window of the B-29...maybe. What is your plan?

Thanks very much chaps.

I was hoping to start on the carving and sanding today, but it looks like some areas of the "Milliput" haven't fully cured yet, probably my fault, possibly due to unequal parts of the putty being blended.
I'll leave this to set for a few more hours, and then review the situation, although I may have to remove the putty and start again - b*ll*cks !

Andy, I will be adding weight, under the cockpit floor in the nose wheel well, as this area will be invisible once on the display base. However, an access ladder will also be fitted in the open rear hatch, which should keep the tail up if set at the correct level, and, of course, the model will also be glued to the base, possibly with pins in the main wheels too.

LB, I have plans for the radio room view through the open hatch. The cockpit bulkhead will be fabricated, along with the radio table and seat, with scratch-built radios utilizing 3D decal fronts. The Flight Engineer's instruments and other details will also be scratch-built. If the Koster turrets kit doesn't eventually arrive, then I'll scratch-build the top turret details too.

All being well, I hope to start the carving and sanding either much later tonight, or some time tomorrow. Meanwhlle, I'll probably start some work on the port outer engine cowlings.

Are you sure that it's not them there gremlins in your area?
