My uncle Robert G. Mills (USNA '42), then a Commander in the early '60s, was assigned to take the USS New Jersey out of the mothball fleet, update her with modern technology and weapons for service in the Vietnam era. Being promoted to Captain, he was put in charge of the Ship Repair Facility, Subic Bay, Philippines throughout that conflict, being promoted to Rear Admiral as a result. Through most of the '70s, he was in charge of Pearl Harbor and the facilities.
