Bf 109E rudder pedals

Hi,
I've been doing research on Bf 109E's and was looking at a picture of a restored aircraft. i know that looking at such aircraft might have some differences but it had the rudder pedals painted in the black Electron paint. I'm making an Airfix 109E-1 in 48th scale at the moment and have always sprayed the whole cockpit RLM02 Grau.
Can anyone help as to whether to paint said pedals in black or leave them RLM02.

Actually the rudder pedals could be painted with the same colour the entire cockpit was or these could be of the NMF. In many pics of the Emil's cockpits it can be noticed that these were of the bare metal mostly. Even if these were painted their inner surfaces and edges were worn down to the metal. So I would stay with the bare metal finish rather.
