Bird Doggin'!

Great stuff! The 'dog was anything but a "dog"! And a fabulous glider tug to boot. But then the warbird crowd discovered them and they became too expensive to be working airplanes. That niche has been taken over by Pawnees displaced from the ag business by environmental regulations. They do a workmanlike job as tugs, but don't have the flair and panache of the old 'dog. (Or the 60° flaps and Stuka-like plunge back to the field to pick up the next tow!)
That rolling down the runway on one wheel in a full slip trick was how I used to teach students confidence in crosswind landings. So much easier in a stick and rudder plane than the control yoke Cessnas and Beechcrafts we used in the flight school. But our chief tow pilot made it clear the planes were for "tow doggin", not "hot doggin".
Cheers,
Wes
