I was looking at reading up about the development of the US Air Mail system and had an eye on "Mavericks of the Sky" by Rosenberg/Macaulay. However reviews seem to indicate that it's lacking in much-needed graphics and mainly focuses on the early years.
Then "Flying the Beam" by Lehrer seems more of a pilot's book. Others (Piloting the US Air Mail; Flying the Mail) aren't comprehensive enough.
Does anyone have a good book suggestion on this topic? I'd like to read about the period from its beginnings to the start of WW2 if possible.

See my comment above; "Others (Piloting the US Air Mail; Flying the Mail) aren't comprehensive enough." This one IIRC dates from 1927, so QED misses out ten years at least.
