Can be read almost like this -

元漢 Originally Chinese characters

漢此不 信其可 欣案此 This is not Chinese sentence but believe it ought to be and wonder

必行 Be sure to do this

実周及 此蛍漢 保及于 Circle these words and remember

君安 Don't worry

定有支 出実必 居此先 There is always an answer. Stay

及信 and trust

料必向 安可木 無不決 Weigh direction as there is a tree. Don't annoy

***********************

This would be a souvenir flag sold in the postwar as there are scarlet seals.

Thanks for the translation. What would be an approximate value for this since its a post war souvenir?

Hopefully more than you paid. WW2 memorabilia, such as these flags can be hard to put a value on, are often counterfeited, and some are so personal to the original owner that the most appropriate course of action is attempting to locate a surviving family member.

Forgive my color blindness if I’m wrong, but, are those red(?) circles stamped on? Have you researched what they are? Import stamp, perhaps?

Hello - Sorry to jump into the middle of this thread, but I've never posted before... I have a Japanese flag that was with some items we purchased quite a while ago at an auction, however we didn't know it was at the bottom of the box. We do quite a bit of historic preservation of local buildings and history and the items we "rescued" at the auction appeared to have been from a family who no longer wanted their family photos, etc, etc. (we found in bothersome). Anyway, I figured out how to send this flag to the Oban Society but would really like to know what it says prior to sending it away and hopefully into the hands of the rightful owner(s). Hopefully the photos were downloaded correctly. Thanks in advance for any help in translation. John

Much appreciated!! Actually makes me feel a little better knowing it doesn't have as much of a personal connection. Thanks again, John

Thank you for the detail, very informative indeed. Do you feel this is from the war or is it post-war? Regards, John

hello,

This flag and sword were recently passed down to me. Was wondering if someone could help with the translation of the writing on the flag. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The flag has no owner's name.
Probably authentic but each word makes little sense with no recipient.
Thank you very much for your time. Are you able to provide a little context behind the writing? Is it overall encouraging or consistent with the meaning of the “good luck” flag? Thanks again.

Words on the flag are generally so offensive.
Looks like officers gave an officer this with no ID before battle.

1. 必勝 hissyo = win
2. 祈武運長久 inoru buunchokyu = wish good fortune in battle
3. 撃滅 gekimetsu = destroy
4. 必勝の信念 hissyo no sin-nen = Have belief to win
5. 忠勇奉公 tyuyu houkou = serve loyal
6. 日本刀は輝く nihonto wa kagayaku = japanese sword shines
7. 叩き潰せ米英 tatakitsubuse bei-ei = destroy US and UK
8. 七生報国 sichisei houkoku = serve to your country to the end
9. 必殺 hissatsu = kill
10. 屠米鬼 beiki wo hohmure = demolish american devils
11. 祈健闘 inoru kento = wish your good fight
12. 忠誠勇武 chuseibuyuu = be loyal and fight bravely
13. 米鬼撃滅 beiki gekimetsu = destroy american devils
14. 勇猛邁進 yuumou maishin = be brave to advance

Thanks a ton for this! This seems to be consistent with what I’ve been told about it. My great grandfather brought it home from WWII. He received a bronze star for his efforts.
