Had one of these back when. Ford XY panel van. Got it second hand for $3000. Picture shows a GS style which is a V8. Mine was a six but metallic black.
Did 230,000 miles on two engines. Todays value ? Probably a fair bit more.



This is the sedan version of the GTHO. The phase 3 or 'shaker' (air scoop used to look like it was trying to vibrate itself off the bonnet) - introduced
in 1971 and was the fastest four door production car in the world. Still on of the most valuable four doors too with the best going for an eye watering
1.2 million dollars (sold originally by the dealer for $5,000). Made specifically as a production racer to compete locally but especially for Bathurst.
 
General Motros Holden were not to be outdone in the drool car stakes so....



1971 HG GTS Monaro - 350 chevy engine as the largest option. Also a nice car. The six cylinder versions were popular
as a first car at anything from $1500 to $2700 second hand.

Similar body shape but a different vehicle. The South African division built them as well to market as Chevrolet SS. All
very confusing really. The first model to be using the 327 lead to a smaller engine design in Australia as engineers said the
327 wouldn't fit. The 253 and 308 were designed and built when engineers realised they had their measurements wrong
and the 327 would fit anyway. End result was a couple of models with a selection of V8's 253 CID through to 350 CID.

Aussie cars by Ford and Holden had influences from US and British divisions or even whole cars.
 
Is this be the basis of "the last of the V-8 interceptors. Shame to blow it up."?
 
Chrysler ( Australian cars marketed under the name Valiant) always ran third to Ford and Holden for some reason, probably
racing being the main one as the rivalry between the other two is legendary. They still came up with some good ones though...

Probably the most popular Valiant made - 1971 Charger - the first of a series which went until 1978. At one stage it took up
80% of Valiant sales. The six cylinder E49 had oodles of grunt and was the best out until Porsche came up with the 911.
Did have a slight problem compared to the other two makes when it came to going around corners at speed. Friend had one ($3000)
and it was a spacious and comfortable car.
 
Cars that I'd NOT buy ...
One of my old bosses bought a green S-600 as a "project" (flat four engine & chain-drive to rear wheels). Not bad condition considering its age but it had a cracked block - his wife's hairdresser said he could fix it by cutting the block in two & fitting a gasket . Boss gave the engine to the guy - needless to say he wrecked it.

Bought this one. Volvo xc70 4wd, 200hp I had almost bought one 20 years ago. Stuck with me
I play with it for a while. Fix the maintenance jam (looks good but need some love and kuddles )
Good driving car.
Its no Jeep but can get you through ruffish terrain.
