Château de Suscinio, France

The Château de Suscinio or de Susinio is a Breton castle, built in the late Middle Ages, to be the residence of the Dukes of Brittany. It is located in the commune of Sarzeau in the département of Morbihan, near the coast of the Atlantic ocean. The spectacular site comprises the moated castle, a ruined chapel, a dovecote, and a few ruined outbuildings.

Designed to be a place of leisure, between the seaside and a forest full of game for hunting, the castle's first logis seigneurial dates from the beginning of the 13th century.

The castle was fortified and enlarged, at the end of the 14th century, when the heirs of the duchy had to fight to keep their assets, after the castle was taken by Bertrand du Guesclin, the infamous Constable of France. John V and John VI constructed a new seigniorial residence block with a large, new corner tower known as the Tour Neuve. A casemate was added at the end of the 15th century to protect artillery pieces.

Pernštejn Castle, Czech Republic

Pernštejn Castle is a castle in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on a rock above the village of Nedvědice and the rivers Svratka and Nedvědička, about 40 kilometres northwest of Brno. Pernštejn came to be known as the marble castle because of the marble-like stone used to frame the doors and windows.

It was founded by the Lords of Medlov probably between 1270 and 1285. The family branch seated at the castle and adopted the then fashionable name Pernštejn (written also Pernstein), which is the Czech version probably derived of the German name, Bärenstein – the "Bear Rock".

Its history is closely connected to the Pernštejn family and their descendants. It has kept its intact appearance in the Gothic and Renaissance form as it was finished in the first half of the 16th century by the Pernštejns, then the richest and most powerful lordly family of the Bohemian kingdom. Pernštejn is one of the best preserved castles in Czech Republic.

I may a bit prejudiced, however. Colin Breen, the gentleman who started the "Four Green Fields" pub here in Tampa, runs the pub (also called "Four Green Fields," btw) in the castle, as well. He and his partner (Bryan Bean), bought the hotel in 2015.

Little castle in Cantal, a "département" in France, in the Auvergne region. The Château du Sailhant is located in the village of Andelat, and there is a lovely waterfall there on the side of it.
The black volcanic stone is typical in the construction of castles and houses there....

Runkelstein/Roncolo Castle, Territory of Ritten, South Tyrol, Italy, dates back to the 13th century....

Reifenstein Castle is a castle in Freienfeld, near Sterzing, in South Tyrol. It is located near a dried marsh, in the valley of the Eisack.

The castle is mentioned for the first time in the 12th century, and was modified in the 14th century. It is a property of the Thurn und Taxis counts. It is famous for the decorated "Green Hall" with Gothic paintings and a woodcarved chapel-door, the stubes and the collection of armor.

The castle also contains an original kitchen, bathroom and medieval sleeping bunks. One of its owners included William P. Carr, who bought the castle a bit before World War II. At that time, his last name was Reifenstein, but before he went to war he changed his name to Carr.

Longford Castle stands on the banks of the River Avon south of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. It is the seat of the Earl of Radnor,and an example of the Elizabethan prodigy house.The castle is Grade I listed and is within Odstock parish. The formal garden, pleasure grounds and park extend into neighbouring parishes and are listed Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
The castle is the seat of William Pleydell-Bouverie, 9th Earl of Radnor, and is open to the public for pre-booked tours on 28 days of each year.
