A huge fortress on a 500m high hill over the town of Harburg, Bavaria, Germany. The Harburg fortress was first mentioned in the 12th century. For some 800 years it has been the property of the famous House of Oettingen. Most of the castle's buildings date back to the medieval times. The fortress is protected by an impressive wall with 6 towers fitted with walkways and a bergfried. A legend says that the fortress had a well 129m deep and it would take you 13min to get water to the surface (calculate the speed and check if it is true). Large-scale reconstruction was started in the 18th century but was not completed, that's why the medieval looks of the castle complex survived.
Chateau de Beynac is one of the most famous and well-preserved chateaus in Beynac-et-Cazenac, Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
It was used to represent the interiors of the Carrouges' Estate and both interior and exterior scenes set at Fontaine-Les Sorel castle, the home of Marguerite's family in The Last Duel by Ridley Scott. Its walls were once guarded by some of the greatest historical figures - King Richard I "the Lion-Heart" of England or Simon de Montfort, leader of one of the crusades – to name a few. It is believed that deep inside the heart of the fortress, you can still hear the sound of fierce battles of the Hundred Years War – the war between the Crowns of England and France.

Doorwerth Castle was built between 1402 and 1560. It is in brick but the original castle, first mentioned in 1260 was probably wooden.
It changed various owners and was restored various times.
After 1913, it was used as a Dutch Artillery Museum.
