Working out the new AB. I'm pretty happy with it already.

So to give a bit more in depth answer Andy, I was looking at aircraft 1.

I realized that there was something different about the camo pattern. It's hard to see, at least for me, but the pattern has a sawtooth to it.

and I'm not sure how to mask it out. I'm going to try some things but my back up plan will to be to go with aircraft III.

Which has a more conventional pattern for the era. I'm open to suggestions but the thought of cutting a sawtooth pattern in some tape and transferring it to the kit and, well you see, or maybe it's just me!

Thanks Don. The sawtooth pattern was seen on 109's manufactured at a certain facility (can't remember which) and it was thought to be as a result of an early misinterpretation of a paint spec. Here's an example:

I asked because the scheme looked a bit different than what I'm used to seeing and the colours also look a bit off. The darker areas should be RLM 74 but they look like you used RLM 70 black/green to me.

Thanks Andy for the quick response. I'm using the Vallejo model air 74 75 & 76 for this build. There are 70 & 02 splotches on the 76 side. I may have picked up the wrong bottle but pretty sure I did pull the 74. You know how organized my bench can be 🤣😂😅

That's possible, even with a well organized work space like yours. ;)

The RLM 74 should be lighter than the 66 that you used for the cockpit and the pics don't reflect that. As for the sawtooth, I think the pattern can be easily replicated with paper masks raised slightly with blue tack. A bit tedious to cut them but very doable.

Yeah, I just printed out the blown up image I posted for your inspection and it's just right to cut out for the mask. The picture you posted, the 75 looks overly light. But I'll check the 74. I liked that as it was out of the norm.

Well in spite of my best attempts I needed to use a template. I tried using the one that I was using to show the sawtooth pattern but I could not distinguish the pattern very well to cut it out. So I rescanned it in at a 1200 DPI and adjusted the brightness and contrast until the shades were distinguishable from one another. I then cropped out the upper shot and then reduced it to 750 x 712 or so. I got this, printed five.

I took this and using a new #11 blade cut it out on a floor tile only cutting out the dark (RLM 74) and taped it on over the 74.

I then shot the RLM 75 on one wing, then masked the other wing and shot it and then the tail.

Well I'm happy!

I'm happy you're happy. Just read a build last night where the guy free-handed the main part of the camo and the used a fine brush to do the saw tooth
