Thanks for looking in guys.
I got some paint in the other day, SMS Camo Brown FS30219. I thought it looked too dark. But doing a test with Forest Green FS34079 I did add some Aggressor White Grey FS36628 (underside), only a couple of drops to the Brown and it is too light. So I am going with the Forest Green and Camo Brown right out of the bottle. So now I can quit horsing around
and get down to the painting. With all the time I've been able to spend on this one it's going rather quickly.

The camo brown colour looks incorrectly for the AVG kites. It is very similar to the yellowish Sand coat used for the desert camo rather. But it should be more browish paint. The AVG P-40s were painted with the DuPont 71-013 Dark Green, 71-065 Red-Brown or 71-009 Dark Earth on tops and the 71-021 Light Grey for undersides.
The close up FS equivalents ..
71-013 ... FS34079
71-065 ... FS30188 or 71-009 ... FS30219
71-021 ... FS34424
A note ... the 71-009 was the DuPont's earlier version of Dark Earth and was used as part of the Temperate Land Scheme on planes like the P-40 that were delivered to Great Britain. It was lighter and redder than 71-035 also mentioned as the 71-065.

The colour set #2 above seems to fit the faded variant of the AVG camo very well. However IMHO the Brown should be slightly darker. Contrary to that the set #1 above seems to be more suitable for the P-40s sent for the RAF in the GB.

Wojtek, funny enough these you posted I had come across and looked over. Totally escaped me when I was doing my numbers and colors. It was This one, 71-013 ... 2 parts FS34092 and 1 part FS34079, 71-009 ... FS30219, I was going for but lost my way. So it has come down to this...... bottom image from my silly one above. Thanks for shaking me awake.

I couldn't help myself. Wings painted.
Decided to do them separate from the fuselage,
just a bit easier, call me silly.
I did do the 2:1 mix for the green, I like it!
SMS Foliage Green (2), SMS Forest green (1).
Have added seat belts, ready to button
her up. Then comes the overall painting.
Canopy and glass parts are masked. Should go quick now.

Excellent Stuff Bill. Just an FYI. If you are going for a factory paint job Curtiss didn't apply the dark green camo to the ailerons ( and I think the elevators too) during their painting process.

Thanks for the help, however that is not the same dash number as my kit.
And am exhausted trying to find the camo patterns of the upper wing surface.
Just going with the kit diagram of this plane.

So as it goes, again!
A little more detail I says to myownself.
How about opening the flow thru under
the engine I says. Like under here!
See the stainless area in front of the shell
chutes? Sure I says. Well, it's not as bloody
easy as it looks! Cuz the parts that move
Cover that SS and it is wayyy forward of
where the kit has it............
