Ok so we stated the nose art. Using the Monogram ProModeler decals (designed for the Monovelle kit, I go the starboard (right) wing on. I have added several picturesto show upper and lower extremes of the decal as it wraps around the forward fuselage.
The yellow arrow points toa break in the decal that caused a bit of concern. I don't think that my water was warm enounh as they are wuite old. They did come of well enoung and I used Microset on the kit to set them down but I used Solveset after that.
Over all I'm pleased, If the second wing goes down as well I'll be happy.
Oh yeah, Once they come of the decal film, They is blue and match the insignia blue nose I painted on.
Well on to the port side, I could use some Port before I get started, nope, no I couldn't....
First, a couple bubbles to pop and lay down on the starboard side.
Warming the water takes a bit oof time.
This a large and old decal.
bath time...
slather in microset.
already cracking
%#$@&%*!!!!
Dry and Solaset the sh!t out of it.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on Salaset, fubar57
said it didn't work on Liflelike decals and most say it's too strong. I agree it strong stuff but in this case it seems to be the Right Stuff. The decals are old a brittle and microsol is not quite up to the task. Been using Solaset for decades and never had issues. Anyway it's working its magic on this one.
Well the nose work is almost done and it looking abit better, well I think so...
I have placed the mouth and the eyes. these are designed for the Monovell kit so the gun holes in the mouth don't align correctly and that will be a bit of a challenge. I am using Micro Set and Sol for this part at least for now.
I'll still need to babysit and do more solvent on the decals but they need to dry overnight. It's 22:24 here so time to put things up and find a bed..
I had to some touch up paint work where the two halves meet top and bottom. A little brush work and thetooth pick for the white outlines.
Those huge decals can be a beast and the crappy thing is, one mistake with a one off decal and you have to find another sheet or change tack….been there, changed tack
Don, well done on those Decals mate that could have gone so bad for you and you were able to get it laid down the best you could, the paint touch ups have saved the day with the little bits that didn't quite get there. Well done..!!
