Actually the top one isn't the WW2 era submarine. That's the Japanese Type 1 submarine. In other words a modified Holland-class vessel (Holland Type 7-P ) built in the USA. There were 5 of them launched in April/May 1905. Then knocked down and shipped to the Gokaska Docks at Yokosuka for reassembly in the same year. All of them were decommissioned on 1 April 1921.
IMHO the shot presents one of the reassembled boats.
