Lockheed Hudson was the somewhat unlikely provider of the RAF's first 'kill' of the war. Over Jutland in Denmark, Flt Lt Womersley was flying N7217 of 224 Squadron and shot down a Dornier Do 18 into the sea on October 8, 1939. Womersley then signalled to the nearby Danish vessel Teddy, which rescued the German crew.
