Despite the big Nr 6, this was the seventh production aircraft; the six was referencing its use in the test flying schedule for the type, which was constantly interrupted because of the high number of crashes by the prototypes, so much so that the first production aircraft off the production line were put into the test schedule to make up for the lost time. This aircraft didn't last long, this crash was because of an engine fire and it had only been flying for two months.

Interesting to note the ET 503 bomb racks, which were produced by Focke Wulf and were originally designed for an underwing installation, so to fit them under the Me 262's nose, a wooden base plate contoured to fit the curved top side of the rack was made. These were hand made and their quality was not always guaranteed. The other problem is that these racks instilled severe vibration in the aircraft in flight. This was cured by the fitting of the Wikingershiff bomb racks specifically designed by Messerschmitt for the Me 262.

Also only the 2 gun ports in the nose.
