... in appalling weather conditions and visibility, and out in the feet-wet- world, the decks were rolling to winter seas. Nice to have that on your mind as you started your mission run.
IMO, The Retreat is the greatest victory the US Marines have ever achieved - along side some hairy-bag Royal Marines who gave the operation spit and polish,.

That they found themselves where they found themselves is another story - another of MacArthur's 'communications' blunders.
Great airlift from the USAF while it lasted with C-119 and air ambulances ... dropping ... bridge spans by para in the middle of a narrow mountain valley ... staggering.

That China and North Korea behave as they do - loud noise - massive roll-over campaigns- but retain a visceral fear of US (Allied) firepower is a good thing and Korea - frustrating as it turned out to be - really demonstrated what the modern battlefield could deliver,
