Although a Japanese homing system existed and was detected during the Battle of Coral Sea as the Wikipedia article on Coral Sea has "According to Prados (p. 309), the Japanese carriers' aircraft homing signals were detected by Yorktown* 's radio intelligence unit, led by Lieutenant Forrest R.
