Sorry Andy, yes, it's more of a 3/4 top view, from the right (starboard) side.
I wanted to buy this particular site at Cockpit Fest back in 2010, to add to my 'Lancaster bits' collection, as it wasn't expensive, but the seller had gone 'walk about' and hadn't returned by the time I had to leave !

Thanks Terry. Just got back from Nanton and checked the stores in the museum and there's a complete sighting head there. Took pictures from a number of angles and can post if you or anyone else is interested. Otherwise I will just file them for my reference.

The postman finally delivered my long-awaited PE bomb bay detail set that I ordered on Dec 2. Loads of fun on the horizon!
In addition to the two large racks down the center of the bay, there are 30 individual doors with multiple ribs on each door. If I start now, I MIGHT get done before the GB deadline!
In the meantime, today I started on the bomb sighting head. With my vernier set at a target overall scale length of 9mm, I began assembling a bunch of bits of card and rod in the rough proportions needed to build up this complex piece of kit.
My challenge to come up with a way to make the cast aluminum arm was met by using strips of brass sheet bent and CA glued to the outermost rod. To make it look a little more solid, I dropped some Testors Clear Parts Cement into the two spaces and will now allow this to dry before painting. The overall piece came out about a millimeter too long but I'm VERY happy with the outcome
I'll take more pics with my macro lens once the unit is painted. Thanks again for following and for the comments.

The bomb sighting head has been finished off by first pinching it in my holder and attaching some wiring/hoses. The single bit of wire coming off the back of the cylinder represents a suction line and the two thinner wires will be sent off to the computor unit.
The head was then painted and some labels scratched in with a pin.
There are several things on the punch list that need to be completed on the inside before the major milestone of gluing the fuselage halves together. The bomb sight will be set aside and installed at the last minute as I don't want to risk damaging it. I therefore moved on to making the ammo boxes for the waist guns seen in the photo I posted earlier. For these, I scaled the boxes relative to the width of the fuselage in the photo and applied that ratio to the model proportions to lay out and cut the pieces as seen here:
From here I assembled the sides, added some stiffeners and glued on some bits to represent the ammo box mounting bracket. It looks a bit rough here but I'm not too fussed as these boxes will be only barely seen through the side windows.
Another item was to add some flares to the rack. After looking up the cross section of these in my British ordnance reference, I determined that these most closely resembled 4.5" reconnaissance flares which were black with a thin red band near the tip. The mounting holes to the right of the flares had some pressure bottles glued in earlier but the forward one interfered with the wing spar that I built and so I took them out. With the spar there, these won't be seen so I won't replace them. I also didn't spend any time on the oxygen bottles other than roughly spraying some steel coloured paint on them as these won't be seen either. The flares will be just barely visible through the front glass.
Finally for today, I began the preparation for adding the PE bomb bay details. Everything provided by the kit there now basically needs to be scrubbed clean and built new. The below pic shows the kit supplied plastic truss removed and the two slots for these filled roughly with scrap card stock. The moulded stiffeners also need to be cut away. The two windows on the rear bulkhead have already been addressed by cutting them wider and adding some PE bolting strips to the edges.
Once the bomb bay is clean, I will leave the addition of all the details until after the fuselage is glued together since access is pretty good.
