If I might interject.
When I made my AmTech P-40F 5 years ago or so, the fuselage had some warpage. So I cut a piece of sprue and inserted it into the fuselage halves near the very bottom, as a a sort of "spreader," and it made the wing root gap much smaller, and didn't take away from the shape of the aircraft any. Of that helps.
