Thanks guys. Slow progress but progress there is. The "gondolas" for the bombs are meant for a Tempest, whose wings have a much thinner chord than those of a Typhoon so the curvature didn't suit my model very well. A combination of digging out more material in the middle and filling more on the ends has resulted in a good basis for fitting these on. Now it's on to several rounds of adding filler and sanding to shape. Some ways to go yet before they look acceptable:
When I'm done all this, I'll add the various deflector plates around the ejector chutes.
The inside of the chin scoop is not very well represented as the insert at the top only goes part way down the sides of the housing, leaving a huge step that needs to be ground out and smoothed as it's quite visible. The top seam also needed some work and still does, as you can see:
Likewise, there were some very slight seam indications on the fuselage inserts when I shot a trial coat of primer on so I dabbed a bit more surface primer on that will be sanded back to level.
I hope to make some good inroads on this model the rest of this week. Once all this smoothing work is done, things should go a lot faster. Thanks for looking in guys.
Thanks all. Work around the bomb carriers continued last night with more smoothing and the addition of the deflector plates at the chute openings and the attachment lugs for the early carrier position. A test shot of Medium Sea Grey shows just a bit more touching up needed here and there, though I'll keep in mind the offending bits will be within the black zone of the AEAF stripe.
Thanks all. Back on track with the radiator painted and fitted.
Yes, those file marks above the intake will be addressed but, for now, I wanted to get on with adding the supports that held the dust filter in place as seen here (though bent):
I cut some strips form styrene card stock and played with the lengths until they fit. Fiddly yes but effective.
With that done, I slid in the cockpit and secured it with large dabs of CA, then chucked the wing on. Right now, I've just glued the back seam and along the radiator housing and will tackle the wing roots tomorrow when the glue has dried.
