I think the ladder has landed somewhere in "The Land of Spiders" - under my desk/workbench - and hidden itself under one of the side cabinets in the dust and cobwebs !
No chance that I can get down there without re-arranging the room, as I'm too stiff and knackered to do so.
I've decided to bite the bullet and buy the resin twin-pack, as one of the ladders can be used on the Jag model, and the other adapted for a Mirage III model.

Mentioning the Mirage made me remember - I abandoned the build of the Hobby Boss Mirage III when the AK metal paint reacted with the base coat, and there's a ladder included in the kit (as well as one in a second HB kit).
Dug it out and checked it over, and it'll do fine, once altered with some thin plastic rod. So my Jaguar ladder problem is solved !

The F-4J would look good in RAF 74 Sqn colours, as a F4-J(UK) .................
Indeed it would! But I thought there were physical differences between the US Phantom and the RAF version due to the Spey engines? I was tempted to get one of Airfixs most recent Phantom kits but they are twice the price of the one I have.

Nope.
After the Falklands conflict in 1982, four RAF Phantoms were sent to Stanley (with others rotating as required), leaving a gap in UK air defence.
Therefore a batch of 15 ex US Marines F-4J were acquired (one lost when it fell off the crane into the harbour during loading in the US), forming 74 Sqn at Wattisham. (later re-equipped with Spey Phantoms when other Sqns got the Tornado F-3.)
They were painted in "equivalent colours" in the US, this being Flint Gray upper surfaces (available in gloss enamel from Xtracolour).
Decals in 1/48th were available at Hannant's, as I built the Monogram 48th scale kit in this scheme, and I think they're also in 1/72nd scale.
Pic below from a magazine of the period (possibly Fly Past) shows how they looked.
They were "standard" US aircraft, and the crews used US flight gear and helmets etc.
