Hello,

I'm going to start painting soon, but I have a question about the color of the underside of the engine hood.
IMHO, I think it's not RLM04... RLM74 (or other color) ?

The Eduard's suggestion for the camo of the Fw 190A6 is that the undersides of the engine cowling was the red. Although the yellow was the standard ID marking there that's possible Rudorffer as the commander of the II./JG54 could have the red colour there. Using of the red is also known from a couple of other images of the Fw 190As taken in 1944 and later. IIRC there is also a colour shot confirming that. Regarding the yellow on the bottom part of the rudder ... it can be found in other images of the JG54 Wurgers, especially on these servicing in Russia earlier and later moved to the Finland. But in the case I also have a doubt and it might have been the yellow colour wasn't there.

le_steph40 .. regarding the bottom of the egine cowling. I had a close up look at the pic. The enlarged image and then using of the Gamma correction reveals that the area was much lighter than it could be expected. As a result the yellow is also very likely because being in the deep shade it could look like the dark tone.

Indeed, that's a better shot and the difference at the bottom part of the rudder can be noticed nicely. The demarcation line is good seen. So the yellow there with no doubt.

Decals in progress but I think there's a small error in Eduard's interpretation/profile. IMHO, the "double chevron & bar" have a little black outline...

So, I think to use the Aeromaster decal sheet SP48-02 (the little "1" is on another sheet of this set.)

But I'm going to modify it a little (cut)

As they say here, "sleep on it": I need to think twice, but I have my doubts. Does anyone have photo editing software that would allow me to clearly see if this small black outline is present? I tried modifying the photo (contrast, brightness, etc.) with Photos and PhotoFiltre… and it seems the small black outline is there; but am I seeing it because it's there or because I suspect it's there?
