At an aviation display at Gateway National Park (the former Floyd Bennet Naval Air Station), I showed my aeronautical acumen to my step-dad by proving a given plane wasn't flying. I wiped the ground under one of the engines and held up my dry finger. "It's not leaking oil. This plane doesn't fly".
He didn't notice it was missing an aileron.
