Gunsight tinted reticle dimmer

    Please, what is the purpose of that brown glass that pilot could raise ahead the reticle reflecting one?

    It was a sunshade, acting in the same way as sun glasses, used to reduce glare, to allow the illuminated reticle to be seen in strong sunlight.
