Senior Airman
Hello all,

I have been a member of the forum for quite a while now, nearly two years, but up until now have not had the time to participate any further than trying to keep up with a lot of the conversations. Time has been in short supply as I am still a competitive age group triathlete (why suck at just one discipline when you can suck at three ). My focus has been on the long form of the sport – Ironman distance – with a 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42.2km run. As you may imagine, both working and training for these longer events does not leave much time for anything else.

I have had a life-long interest in aircraft, especially from WWI to WWII, with my late father having been a RAAF engine fitter in WWII serving in the Pacific. I spent many hours in my teens building and basically destroying 1/72 scale plastic models, but with competing interests in girls and sport I stopped building almost 35 years ago.

When I joined my intention was to re-start building models and even participate in some of the group builds. That has not really happened just yet, but I do have one under way that I hope :coldsweat: to post in the start to finish section soon.

From reading all the threads on models I must say I am stunned at how far the hobby has come since the late seventies and early eighties – super glue, acrylic paints and photo etch!!

I am impressed with the level of skill and attention to detail by members of the forum. The sheer amount of research that is done on some of the models astounds me, with the resulting artworks leaving me a little afraid that my efforts will look quite pedestrian….:astonished:

Best regards from sunny Melbourne, Oz.

Grant

Nice to have you speak up! I admire guys like you who can do these triathlons - not something I'll ever be able to do with my bad knees and ankles, though I do get on my road bike during our 3 month summers.

Hope you are able to show us your builds and don't be shy about asking for help.

Thanks for the warm welcome - I have a Bf-109A/B in the pipeline. Really only just started so not much to see just yet - it will probably end up being the B as the paint scheme is much more interesting. Hope to kick of a thread in start to finish soon.

Thanks Andy, I've started a thread in start to finish which I think you've already commented on - thanks.

I consider myself extremely lucky to still be running at my age. I'm nowhere near as fast as I was, but I can still do the distances at least!
