I think I read it on this forum: arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics; even if you win, you're still a retard.
That's a bit hard on ex servicemen and women who have lost limbs in the course of their (voluntary) duty.

He was making reference to the mentally challenged (as in "retard")

An example of such unfortunate people would be ones that have suffered injuries to the head or birth defects.

Then you have even worse conditions of mental shortcomings such as lawyers and politicians...

Guys, as a Brit many of the British team in the "special" Olympics, I prefer the old name paraplegic, are ex service who lost limbs in mine IED explosions. Our daughter was a forceps delivery, within an ace of oxygen starvation I presume, there but for the grace go all of us.
I am not making an issue but as I said "retard" is a bit harsh.

Edit...this is way off topic, forget it.

I agree. In my neck of the woods, we've put that term in the bin as derogatory and it was worth saying. Thank-you.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to be offensive to anyone in particular. I'll reserve my dark humour for other areas. Say what you will, but I did first read it on this forum! :)

I see no one getting upset about that, he says facetiously...

In all seriousness, the term "retard" has long since been disused when making a reference to people that have a true mental handicap.

However, at least here in the U.S., it is used in reference to people who do incredibly stupid things that have absolutely no excuse, otherwise. Like the motorist who drives at highspeed in the highway emergency lane when traffic slows, the person who puts a 120VAC television set on a floatie so they can catch the game while relaxing in their swimming pool, the politician that introduces a bill to congress making "photoshop" illegal for portrait photographs, etc.

These are instances where the term is generally used.

All is cool I didnt get upset just thought it was a bit harsh, we have a new phenomenon in UK Lawyers marrying politicians...then offering their spawn up for election.........a repulsive travesty of the electoral process.

No worries, Pbehn - I apologise nevertheless.

Heavens! And we in the colonies thought that hereditary peers was a dumb idea!

I don't mean to criticize, calling the rules crap is probably overboard, but I don't understand why to make usernames so restrictive.

Peter let me keep my username although I really would have no problem using my name.. except that I would just as soon make it tough for NSA to connect me to some of my posts - Lol.

Thanks Andy, georgehenderson there. Won't be much of a participant though. The main reason for joining was to learn more about the Luftwaffe as I've recently purchased a canoe full of aircraft.

Hi all

I have tried creating an account at LEMB a few times over the past couple of years, but for some reason I have never gotten a response. I've even sent a few emails to the admin and received no response.

Today I went to LEMB and tried to create an account, only to see that registration is closed. Can anyone give me the main email of the administrator of LEMB? Every other email I've tried has resulted in no response for some reason.

I am a madder for Il2: Cliffs of Dover and there are a few things I need cleared up, and I know via google searches that the answers to my questions are there on LEMB.

Can anyone help me?

IMPORTANT: End of the road for the LEMB - Important Announcements - Luftwaffe Experten Message Board

"After some 19 years (the last 10 of which have been on our current IPB forum platform) its my incredibly sad duty to announce that as of Friday 29th August 2014, the LEMB will be finally closing down for good. Although my input here will reduce, I will still continue to add posts/threads on subjects which have proved of interest to me and which have also brought a positive response from other members...

Unlike a majority of forums which close, the contents of this forum are to remain visible as a fitting memorial to the small number of members (you know who you are) who've posted, contributed and most importantly of all, bought into what I've been trying to achieve since launching the LEML way back in 1995. As a result, the current membership need not worry about any posts/photos/attachments being lost (which also includes Peter van Gogh's Stkz Database) as all of the forum contents will remain visible for the foreseeable future with only the ability to post being switched off...

Going forward, I'm more than happy to pay for another 12 months hosting, but I will be looking for a more cost effective/longer term way for the archived data to be preserved and accessed. This may include the launching, by a current LEMB member/members, of another independent forum, details of which will appear here once I know more. This new venture will have nothing to do with me, I plan to try and take a break from the subject and move onto pastures new...

To all of the members who, during the time I accepted donations, contributed their own hard earned cash to help towards the running costs, your generosity was, and always has, been very much appreciated. Even though I didn't need the financial help, it always warmed my heart that members were willing to contribute, so thanks again to each and every one of you :)

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the various members of my moderation team who've help with the more mundane duties. So, in no particular order, extra special thanks to Mike Murphy, Christian M. Aguilar, Patrick Gelder, Neil Page, Göran Larrson, and Clint Mitchell... each and every one of them deserves a medal, not only for giving up their spare time to help with the running of the forum, but with having to put up with my constant reminders about the forum rules... so thanks again chaps...

I've made some great friends here, so thanks again to everybody who contributed and I wish each and every one of you the very best for the future...

Hopefully... you learnt, I learnt.... we all learnt :)
