In our teams that sort of thing was totally unnecessary. Everyone knew everyone, teams were small generally, except for the hatchet teams. You carried what you knew you would need and you knew, KNEW, the rest had your back without question
 
No matter how well you know each other, people are not perfect, sometimes they slip up.
It's always best to have someone do a second check.
 
There's a sartorial theory (forgot the actual name) holding that usually the side with the "best" uniforms tends to lose. Seems to apply to WW II!

I don't know about that; the USMC has a great dress uniform, and they did okay in the Pacific...
