How many unfinished Kits do you have? (2 Viewers)

I just snagged up the 1/200 Bismark Chris going to be a while before I start though.The Scharnhorst 1/200 is about 70% complete doing rigging then to the rails.

I have a friend who is downsizing their collection, and selling kits he has not started. I'm buying about 50, all 1/48, at a rate of 2-3 a week.

One of the kits though is a 1/48 scale Type VII submarine with full interior detail. That will be the last one though. Its a $450 kit.

Its 4.5 feet long.

Here are some pics of ones built by others. I'm considering hiring someone to build mine because I'm not sure I would do it justice.

UPDATE: Found the FW190D-11

A-6E Tram - White
S-A/B Viking - White DONE
C-105 Arrow - Really white
CT-155 Hawk - Managed to bugger up the NFTC marking on the tail.
Seafire Mk.XV - Buggered up the RCN serial(Now have replacement)
RCAF P-51 Mustang - Cobbled together decals to make the codes. Now have the proper codes and will replaced.
Spitfire Mk. VIII - Now have the decals to finish as James "Stocky" Edwards aircraft.
P-40F - Looking for decals to finish as James "Stocky" Edwards aircraft.
P-40N - Don't like the paint scheme. Found an RCAF scheme
Spitfire Mk.V - Need white code letter decals to finish as George Beurlings aircraft.
Bf 109E - Now have decals to finish as a "captured" British aircraft
Fw190D - Probably strip the paint off, redo, and decal as a "captured" aircraft. NOT SURE WHERE I'M HIDING THIS ONE FOUND IT AND BUILDING SHORTLY
P-26 Peashooter - tiny exhausts went hither and yon. TRASHED. ONE OF MY EARLIEST EFFORTS AND WASN'T WORTH FINISHING
L-4 Grasshopper - engine mounting problems. DITTO
P-400 Airacobra - Now have decals to finish as 601 Sqn. aircraft
P-47N - Built but needs paint and now have decals for "The Shell Pusher", my call sign on CFS3.
Sack AS-6 - Problems mounting the innards. TRASHED. RESIN INNARDS WERE NOT GOING TO FIT
E.E. Lightning F.6 - Something to do with the front end.
Il-2 Sturmovik - Trying to create a worn winter camouflage, lost interest.
TBM-3 - Problems fitting the gunners station. FINISHED
Ju87G - Lost the antenna mast.
Me109F - Can't remember why I stopped this one but now have decals for a "captured" aircraft.
Typhoo Mk.Ib - Missing instructions
Fw 190A-3 - I forgot I had started this. Finished

I have updated my list from 1 year ago and am happy to report that I have finished 4 kits on the list and have brought 2 more kits closer to completion. And the best news is that in that time I have not started another kit without finishing it.

The updated kits are shown in red below.

1) P-40 Twin - FINISHED

2) Short Stirling – Last work on in March of 2019

3) Robert L Scotts P-40K – Last worked on May 2014. Needs weathering and final assembly

4) F-102 - FINISHED

6) B-17C - FINISHED

7) Boeing 307 - FINISHED

8 ) Bristol Bulldog – 26 years. Ripped off some decals removing masking. Eventually bought another kit for the decals but never got back to it

9) Supermarine S6B – June of 1998. Managed to mix up the pontoon parts so all the attachment slots are on one and none on the other. I bought another one of these kits too but never got back to it.

10) Fokker DVII - 26 Years. I was going through a biplane faze back then and it ran it's course before these were completed.

11) Nieuport 17 – See above

12) Rufe (Zero float plane) – 1999. Had a brain fart and sprayed the dullcoat before the decals. Doh!

13) A6M2 Zero – 1999. Just need to put on the prop and cowl

14) Grumman XF5-1 Skyrocket - Just the props for this one....only about 20 years

15) AMT F4U-1 Corsair, the old AMT kit. Finished except for the decals and the long lost canopy. Did this one before I moved to the city so it's at least 28 years

16) RMS Campbelltown 4 stack destroyer - Had the deck done and the front portion was broken off in an accident. It can be repaired but I never did. At least 20 years ago. Repaired the deck and assembled the Hull a couple of years ago, but never got back to it.

17) XP-55 Ascender – From Group Build #34. Last worked on Feb 2021. Needs final assembly.

18) J7W1 Shinden – Also from Group Build #34. Last worked on Jan 2021. Needs final assembly.

19) X-1 – Not worked on since Aug 2019. A bit more assembly needed before paint.

20) X-1B – Repaired a sink hole in the spine that stopped work last week and will paint it the next time I'm spraying silver. . UPDATE: Painted and ready for Decals

21) Fw-190A-8 – from Group Build #38. May 2018. Was all excited about it then just lost interest. Only about 10% finished. - FINISHED

22) De Havilland DH88 Comet Racer – Fuselage done. Lots of filling to do in the nacelles.

23) M3 Scout Car – Sub-assemblies done and painted.

24) U-99 Submarine - Major assembly done. Awaiting paint and final assembly.

Good stuff, Glenn. I finished nine Shelf of Doom aircraft in the last six months and trashed two as they were beyond hope

Congrats on the upcoming milestone Glenn. I have display issues as well. One Ikea glass cabinet, 2 old kitchen cabinets in my workshop, and one plastic storage bin house my finished kits. I've already given a few older finished kits to some kids across the street to play with. Once I'm finished my builds I hardly EVER look at them again so they just get relegated to a dusty corner out of sight.

I have a glass china cabinet I use to enclose my newer 1/48th scale builds and open shelves for the 1/72nd kits as well as older 1/48. The open shelves are a problem because of dust, and both the cabinet and shelves only have room for a couple more airplanes each.

When I had open glass shelves, I used a lens brush for cleaning dust.

I stole a makeup brush set from my wife I that works pretty well to clean off the airplanes. The shelves, I move the planes off and wipe down with a damp cloth
