Note that in WWII they did not have anything approaching modern day electronics that do so much to make either throttle body or direct cylinder fuel injection so efficient and reliable. It all had to be done mechanically. And that was complex. Can you see where the fuel injection is on this photo I took of the rear of V-3420's supercharger? Pretty obvious, huh?
