Thank you all!
I found, while researching at the time of the construction of the kit, a montage of the same plane a testimony of his son:
http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/Gallery/P-51B/P-51B.htm
Built by Mark Huhtala
" Came across the IPMS website while looking for something else. Saw the P51B decorated in Bob Barkey's colors. I am Bob's oldest son. (His P47 was named "Thunderbolt Lad" after me. Bob is still alive (almost 88) and living in California. His health is not good, but he still has the "Look of the Eagle" in his eye. He continued to fly into his 70's until his health grounded him. I sure if he could still climb into a P51, he could still fly it. I think that in all of the times I flew with him, when he landed, I never felt the wheels touch the ground. For such a big guy, he had a gentle touch with an airplane.
One note about the P51. When the 325th FG transitioned from P-47's to P-51's, Bob was nearly transferred to bombers since he was almost 6' 4". He fought to stay in fighters since he had 4 kills and wanted to make Ace. His crew chief tore the seat adjuster out of his plane and welded the seat to the floor as far back as it would go. I guess it worked!
Nice looking model. I'm glad someone chose those colors.
Bob E.
"

I wish you a nice day.
In Belgium, terrible weather today ....
I will continue building my Dewoitine D.520 Tamiya at 1/48 today, I believe.

Below the only picture of the plane that I could find:

François, could you post some build pics here of your Tamiya D.520 here? I plan on building one in Group Build-39

I'm sorry, Fubar, but I do not have any pictures of the construction of the kit at the moment.

  • I use the set of Aires (ref.4298) for the cockpit: very difficult to set up but very beautiful.
  • + the Quicboost exhausts. ref.QB 48179
  • The biggest fault to correct is the shape of the ventral radiator which is not correct.
There is a French correction kit in Renaissance Model 1/48 for Tamiya:
Dewoitine D520 : Détails (Tamiya) RF48010
Boutique Renaissance-models - Dewoitine D520 : Détails (Tamiya)

You can notice that the entrance and shape is different than that of Tamiya, which would be, according to my research, the best kit all scales combined!

See below:

rf48010.jpg

I hope you can find it in Canada ... .

I would like to do a GC I / 3 Dewoitine D.520 in May 1940.
There is a Berna decals for this, ref. 48133.

BER48133.jpg

Dewoitine D.520 GC I/3:

  1. S/Lt Hubert de Salaberry n∞ 115 code 8 - 05/1940,
  2. S/Lt Michel madon n∞ 90 code 2 - 06/1940,
  3. S/Lt Georges Blanck n∞ 70 code 5 - 05/1940,
  4. Adj André Carrier n∞ 73 code 10 - 05/1940.
I hope not to make a mistake to publish all this in this post ....

Yours,

François

Hello François,
It seems that we have the same project: Dewoitine D520 :) I don't know if it will be my GB#39 project yet... But it will be to build D520 N°277 flown by Pierre le Gloan from June 1940 to June 1941.
Like you, I've the Aires resin cockpit set, but my correction resin set is the former one from Hi-Tech. This kit includes corrected radiator, ailerons, rudder, tires, elevators and some details for the cockpit. I also planned the True Detail wheel set.

I hope not to make a mistake to publish all this in this post ....

Not sure it's the right place for this discussion
