I am looking for pics and info about my Grandfathers units VMF-221 during ww2 and vmf(n) 531 in korea. His name was Col Nathan T Post and was an ace in the pacific. I have zero pictures of him with a plane. I would love to see photos from these units. I will compare them to the tail numbers listed in his log books and try to match them. Thanks Joe H

here is an interesting page from his log book. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for all your efforts! I would love to get any more info. I would really like to see photos as I have only seen one and never one with a plane.

I suggest you try a current "reuion" website for his unit, they usually have a unit historian that should be able to help with photos and info, especially him being an ace, or try the US Fighter Aces Association he should have plenty of documentation there .

joe,

I don't know if you will get this message because the thread is old. I have photos of your grandfather playing with toy planes as a kid, pictures of him in front of a T-6 Texan at Pensacola Naval Air Station where he was a instructor before the war, picture of your grandfather at Henderson Field at Guadacanal, and much much more. Your grandfather was my grandmother's favorite brother. That makes us cousins. Contact me here or via private message.

Regards,

Thomas Salazar

Not sure if either of you still check the forum, but I am researching one of the squadrons that flew from Guadalcanal at the same time then Capt Post did while serving with VMF-122. I have an account from one of the pilots that was on the same mission when he was credited with three float planes while escorting an SBD strike on an IJN task force. Would love to find out if you have any information regarding your grandfather's time while with vmf-122 since the squadron did not submit a war diary for the 1942 tour.
