One of my first "serious" models was a MPC 1970 Dodge Charger. It was probably $4.99 at local shop. Did a reasonable job building and painting it and in the 80's, I threw it and a bunch of my high school car builds out. No space, starting to come apart, not interested in keeping them. Years later and even now it would be worth $100+ There are now better 70 Charger kits but that issue was never re-released. Turns out many of the molds of cars from 60's - 70's were recut to make customs or race versions and couldn't ever be returned to stock form.

Small Stuff Kits Sukhoi I-14bis. Almost got one once but the stockist said he'd gone to a model show and had it stolen!!!! IIRC one of the most detailed, delicate and awesome kits ever made. Small but perfectly formed.

The Bandai 1/48th M12 Self propelled howitzer. It was never re-popped by Fuman and is still rare. The Bandai Austin K5 truck is not far behind, but the wheels need Belcher Bits replacements.

What is interesting about the M12 is that, aside replacing the tracks with Tamiya tracks (and maybe even the bogies?), the whole kit is superbly accurate and fully up to today's standards (As is the companion M30 ammo carrier). None of the other 1/48 Bandais military vehicles are quite like this. It combines the feats of being the rarest and the best model of that range... This is further compounded by being a subject that no other maker has touched in 1/48th scale, or is likely to touch.

I can't think of another old injection kit that combines all these qualities in that scale. There may be a few limited run aircraft kits, but they are likely to be less than state of the art.

I did hear of a Japanese company called Create 301 that supposedly released a G4M2 Betty conversion for the Tamiya 1/48 kit, but this was probably just an announcement that failed to materialise. The conversion would require a colossal number of changes, and I have never seen it built or even attempted from scratch. And yet I have seen an excellent scratch-built H8K Emily by Stephan Giachimo on a seaplane model site (now gone, so my images only exist as black and White printed pages stapled together)!!!

That H8K is the most stunningly detailed and accurate model I have ever seen. And please note most scratch-builds I find inaccurate and full of errors... I wish the few pictures I have of it were in colour... If I remember correctly, the structure was entirely represented in plastic, and skinned in water-resistant paper...

In my place to get a bigger fire cracker in the fuselage of a Bf109E model without destroying it on forehand.

We tried to launch my sister's Barbie doll into space by strapping several bottle rockets to her back. Our attempt failed miserably to get her off the ground, but the explosion at the end was wickedly satisfying. My sister never forgave us.
