Landing gear indicators

I have seen models here with little red post's on top of the wing apparently they are to let the pilot know when the landing gear is down.

Question did all aircraft have them or just some of them.

I'm just wondering as I am at the point of putting the final touches on my fulmar and if it had them I was going to put them on but how far out would I put them?.

Not all planes had them and a look at this vid Fairey Fulmar shows they don't seem to be there.
