Something you won't see if you are a tourist in The Netherlands. This is Building A of radio Kootwijk. Radio Kootwijk was our 'internet' of the last century. It was a radio station that could reach the Dutch East Indies in order to communicate with that remote part of our kingdom before there were any satellites to help us. Dutch ships and KLM aircraft all around the globe could communicate through this station with the motherland. On the plain around this building, there were many antennae, some even using the enormous wavelength of 17.85 km (about 10 miles). Building A, nicknamed the Cathedral was the center of these station. It was build in Art Deco style in 1918 and still exists today, although the radio station is long gone. I love this building, in the middle of nowhere. The nearest city is Apeldoorn, still 20 km away I believe.
