Another interesting site in The Netherlands.
This is called the "Waterloop bos". It used to be the outdoor laboratory of our water engineers. The Netherlands is famous for being able to handle water (1/3 of our country is below sea level) and having the best water engineers in the wold. Well this is where they tested all that stuff at a small scale. Not only dutch waterworks, but also for other countries, like the coast of Denmark, a harbor in Tunisia etc.
Nowadays, computers are much more accurate and easier to use for simulation, so this Forrest became obsolete. Fortunately you can walk there now and volunteers are trying to preserve as much of the models as possible. You can still see the wave-machines and all the constructions to lead the water past all those simulations and quite a bit of the simulations themselves. It's a great day out.
