As I'm getting older I'm at the point of waffling on owning a motorcycle anymore. I've ridden the states except the north east,been to Canada a couple of times and have loved every minute of it even thou it's been challenging sometimes,snow,hail,dust storms,19 degree weather,106 degree weather etc and its all been about the experience and being with good friends. Flash forward to present times. I moved to Florida recently. Mind you I've done bike week and Biketoberfest on a bike here. But the last 3 or 4 rides of going straight with 90 degree turns and just being hot and yeah there's some scenery thats beautiful but just not "yeehaa" roads I'm thinking of selling my Indian Roadmaster...So in the meantime as open air fun I picked up a cherry 2013 Mini Cooper S convertible that actually the wife found by chance..Has literally everything in it and 38k miles.. I am so torn of giving up riding but the cages here are nuts and sweating my ass off just ain't fun. Anyway past and present..

Hey man, whatever raises your periscope. My brother is a biker and loves it, not that he gets much of a chance to go out and flex his muscles these days, but that's his thing. After my marriage ended I went out and bought myself a V8 Holden and its had a lot of work done on it and it goes like stink. Absolute gas guzzler going to and from work, but the pleasure of driving it out in open country is supreme, untouchable. But, as we get older, we don't need that stuff as much. My mum used to have a fast as BMW M Sport, but after a few too many speeding tickets she bought something a little more sedate!

The mileage on the Mini is a major point to consider: at 38K, it's still under warranty and will provide years of trouble-free service. They're well built and everyone I've spoke to, says they're a kick in the ass to drive.
Don't get me wrong, I love bikes and have owned types in the past like a GPZ1100, Katana 1100 and a '39 Indian Messenger 74 (US Army specs).
But now that I'm (much) older, I've found that carving up canyon roads in sports cars can be just as much fun without the bonus of bug-splats on my face shield and sweating like a whore in church from my leathers.
Don't get me wrong, I love bikes and have owned types in the past like a GPZ1100, Katana 1100 and a '39 Indian Messenger 74 (US Army specs).
But now that I'm (much) older, I've found that carving up canyon roads in sports cars can be just as much fun without the bonus of bug-splats on my face shield and sweating like a whore in church from my leathers.

This one is an S and that little 1.6 turbo has some guts. Funny I drove a 70's something mini in the French Alps and the thing was literally a go kart,you could fling that thing around curves like no tomorrow. This guy I would put more towards a sporty Tourer. I'm still looking for an exciting curve in Florida . Going to have to abuse on/off ramps in the meantime..

In regards to the new Mini over the original Austin, is that the windows roll down (and not slide back, like a VW bus), they're infinately quieter inside and no heat or engine oders (exhaust, gas fumes and hot engine smells) creeping in through the firewall!

The original minis (and mokes) were a lot of fun but if I was to go anywhere in a mini these days it would take my back a week to recover. I will stick to my diesel disco, not as fun but I can drive up to 1100km a day without any contortions and pain. Anything further than that is too tiring.
I can't drive one! The gap between the pedals is too small for my clown feet, I can't fit my knees under the steering wheel and I have to sit in the back seat!
