Hi Chaps,

Made this for a friend who also loves the Avro Lancaster. Completed on 01/03/14.

No Ian. On the model, the barrel jackets down to the receivers, and flash suppressors, look like unpainted, white metal items, with what appears to be the cooling apertures visible.
The canvas covers tended to be somewhat straight sleeves, in khaki or RAF Grey, obscuring all details and the shape of the flash suppressors. Thought maybe you'd not painted them, and hadn't realised.

I see what you mean now! They are painted Terry, done them in gun metal with matt black on the end of the nozzles.

Cool Beans Ian, ever made a Manchester?
Made one ages ago, the Manchester does not float my boat really! used an Airfix kit with the Contrails vacform wings/parts.

Thanks Ian, I see now. The barrel cooling jackets were actually a black Parkerised, or baked painted finish.
BTW, is that the newish Airfix kit, or the earlier kit?

Its the second tooling kit mate! The guy who I've made the model for wanted the guns painted as in the picture!
Normally I'd paint the guns in polished steel, leave it to go dull then lightly buff up the barrels.

This model is foxing quite a few modellers because of the nacelles which have the flame dampers removed
and Revell exhausts fitted which are not in the old kit or ever was!

Thanks for the 'likes' and kind comments guys, keeps me going and like I've always said ''Me likey this forum, full of nice humans''

Not be long before I have another 1/48th ''Just Jane'' finished

Cheers.
Ian.

Good stuff Ian. Interesting that your client wanted the guns painted as in the picture (presumably meaning the pic of the actual aircraft), as they look normal to me - that is, black, with sunlight reflecting off the top of the barrel jackets, making them appear lighter. I think I have another pic of this aircraft, and others from the squadron, showing 'standard' gun colours. The actual barrels themselves, as you know, are 'buried' inside the slotted cooling jackets, and they're a very dark, almost black, metallic grey.
But, what the client wants, the client gets!
I presume you'll be trying to get to at least one of the shows where PA474 and the CWH Lanc will be flying together this August?

At this scale its hardly worth typing about but if it was 1/48th it would be a different matter.

I'm hoping to be a Conny when VeRA lands there but I think everywhere will be blocked by parked cars.
