I don't know about Aussies, but there was a kiwi pilot in WW I - Captain H F Beamish DSC, who flew Sopwith Pups with No.3 Sqn Royal Naval Air Service.
Mabe there were others too, but he's the only one I know of. The RNZAF Museum have a Sopwith Pup Replica displayed in the colours of his aircraft (N6460)
