Yeah, that's what I get for trusting a news reporter to get the facts right! Looks like he was a member of the 23rd fighter group, if you can trust this article.

Very cool. I like stories like this. Vintage Wings of Canada did the same with Stocky Edwards 10 years ago in the aircraft painted up to look like the one he flew in the war. He would have been 88 at the time. AIRIC Stocky Edwards flies in Vintage Wings of Canada's Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

Happens all...the...time. There's still crankiness over Chennault allowing (nay, encouraging) 14AF to usurp the Flying Tigers title. Presumably he did it to maintain the good to great PR the Real Flying Tigers enjoyed since he was often low on the supply totem pole, but it's caused no end of angst & confusion.

Any word on how Moyer's flight went? Which variant of P-40 did he fly in? I am guessing it was a two seater.

It gets even more interesting when the pilot is a member of one's extended family. No blood relation, but also not an original member of the AVG either though I do believe he was a wartime fighter pilot in China and may have been called a "Flying Tiger".
He is not local, nor do I know him personally and he is only a relation by marriage, so there is no way I can find out any more details about his service.
