The candy store didn't carry EC comics. I had to read about Super Duper Man and Melvin of the Jungle at my cousin's house.
Mom wouldn't let me near Tales of the Crypt.
EDIT: It might be Tales FROM the Crypt.
Super Duper Man and Melvin of the Jungle were from a Mad Magazine parody of EC and other Pre-Code comics. EC and Mad were owned by the same publishing company. Im pretty sure I still have it somewhere.

The old MAD- when it was published in comic book format_ had really great artwork and very clever satire. You had to look carefully at the drawings; there was always something going on in the background that merely skimming over a story would miss.That's where an older brother came in handy for me
I believe you are correct. IIRC one pilot had the enemy dead to rights, but couldn't find the gun charger. Also the Philippines AF had some from the US Army and one is reported to have scored a kill.... didn't some face the IJAF at the opening stage of WW2 around Clarke Field ..?
