Going by the author of the publication. Could be an error on his part. Anything is possible.
Original PBM: The original PBM was a seaplane with no landing gear.
PBM-5: The PBM-5 was not an amphibious aircraft and did not have retractable landing gear.
PBM-5A: The PBM-5A was an amphibious aircraft with retractable landing gear. The Navy ordered 36 PBM-5A models to address the PBM's lack of landing gear. The PBM-5A was used in the Coast Guard as the PBM-5G.

great picture! I wish the plate on the car was clearer, as the colors look like a 1941 Michigan Plate on the front of the 41 Ford, and the hangar looks similar to the surviving hangars on what was the Ford airfield in Dearborn Michigan. But that is just a guess about the location and time period.

Your guess is probably pretty good. I did try to find a better one, but it is pretty old.

This is not the original "Wolfchen" Nr 841, it is one of a few duplicates that were made following the Wolf's triumphant return to Germany in 1918. A number of imposters were created for propaganda purposes as by the time Wolf returned, the war was grating on the population.
