It is correct. It is the Liberator B Mk.VI (ex B-24J-20-CF Bu.No. 42-64378) code GR-R s/n. EV978 (kpt. pil. Michał Goszczyński) of the 1586 Polish Special Duties Flight at the base of the Campo Cassale, Brindisi, Italy,- July/August 1944. The Liberator like the BZ965, KG827, KG890 and KH101 ( all of them the B-24J variant ) was lightened by removing of the ventral and front turrets. The nose part ofthe fuselage was replaced by the Liberator II-style "green house" nose.

The removing of the turret was done in the field or in a mod center?
I don't remember fully. But IIRC the most of the RAF Halifax and Liberators used for the secial duties could be modified by the Scottish Aviation Ltd at the Prestwick airfield in Scotland. Or, what is more possible in the case, at the Campo Casale base in Brindisi, Italy where, right in the workshops of the forward airfield, squadron mechanics could install additional fuel tanks in the bomb bays and remove unnecessary gun turrets to lighten the aircraft for the extremely long flight to Warsaw.

What we see is a short nosed Ki-45 with 2 guns in the nose and with 2 oblique firing guns as well. This is the first variant with oblique guns called Ki-45 Kai Ko Tei - first adapted night fighter version. It's in fact a Ki-45 Kai Ko (a) but with oblique guns like Tei (d). The difference is in the oblique armament, consisting of 2x12.7mm Ho-103, same as the nose armament. There might be a ventral cannon Ho-2 (1x20mm) but often not. The difference is, the late Ki-45 Kai Tei (d) had 2x20mm Ho-5 oblique guns.
