C'mon, nobody would bolt a plate to aircraft skin to censor a picture. By the way, there was nothing to censor there.

Note it is in line with the prop arc. Ice damage slung from prop?

It is a additional plate to give some more of protection to the pilots. the plate was mounted on both sides of the cockpit. It can be found in many pics of B-24 of different versions.

Not damage - the armour plate was fitted after the artwork was painted. This was common, and can be seen on various aircraft.

I agree with Terry. It is not any damage. Just the arts had been applied before the additional plates were attched. See the images above.
