Aboard Ranger (CV-4) Scouting 42.Obviously, these are Vought Vindicators but I assume that they are USMC.
VT-8 was equipped with Vindicators before being reequipped with TBD.

Not the USMC but navy VS-41 and VS-42 judging by the markings. S stands for "scouting". USN usually had 1 or 2 scout squadrons and the rest were torpedo squadrons (on the same ship). AFAIR VS-41 became VB-41 and VS-42 became VB-42 in 1943.Obviously, these are Vought Vindicators but I assume that they are USMC.

Always jealous of the USN, the Army decided it needed its own carriers. Take-off was rather challenging ... landing-on was more so...... P-38 pilots were not impressed......
