When you see an F-80. You salute it!

At one of the Chino Airshows several years ago. And for those that are wondering, it was an IPA from the Hanger 24 brewery.

But it's a T-33, cousin of the F-80 as is the F-94 or the F-104 or U-2. What was the IPA called? Afterburner?

The Douglas AD Skyraider was just great, right? How to make it even better? Replace that big old R-3350 with a turbine! The result was the Douglas A2D Skyshark!

Unfortunately it lost the Ugliest Ever Naval Aircraft contest to the Fairey Gannet. But it was a good try!

To prove out the Snark guidance system initially the systems was installed in the former location of the upper turret in a P-61. The P-61 took off, switched on the Snark guidance, and the pilot watched to see where it was taking them.

Sort of reminds me of Wasserkuppe, Germany. I was stationed in Wildflecken, only about 10 miles away, in the early 70's.
Though there were many such sites like that all over Europe at the time, just a few miles from the East German and Czech border.
It had more radar radomes when I was there, but they were always improving the radars and changing things, seems like I remember 4 or 5.
